Mary Louise Franklin

BISHOP, Va. — Mary Louise Franklin, age 96, of Bishop, Va., formerly of Thorpe, W.Va., and Ellenville, N.Y., went home to be with the Lord on New Year's Day of 2011 at Heritage Hall Rehabilitation Center in Tazewell, Va. Born July 10, 1914 in Wadesboro, N.C., to the late Elder Dexter and Clara Bennett, she was educated in the McDowell County Public School system. She was a homemaker who was very active in the community of Ellenville, N.Y., doing volunteer work and winning awards for her oil paintings. She was passionate about The Word and received a certificate of completion in “Studies in the Bible” from Mt. Leo Church of Christ in McMinnville, Tenn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, of sixty-seven years, Floyd Wilson Franklin; one son, Tyrone Franklin, Sr.; two sisters, Ethel Bean and Eleanor Lambright; and one brother, William Bennett.

Survivors include three daughters, Claudette Crawley and husband, Sherman of Cleveland, Ohio, Beverly Lewis and husband, Thaddeus of Atlanta, Ga., and Youtha Franklin of New York City; one son, Erie Louis Franklin of Los Angeles, Calif.; one sister, Daisy Beamer; two brothers, Frank Bennett and wife, Ethel and Dexter Bennett and wife, Ann; daughter-in-law, Lucye Franklin of Hampton, Va.; four granddaughters, Randie Godette, Tracie Franklin, Carlier Crawley and husband, Jason, and Tanisha Younger; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 7, 2011 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Reverend Joseph Moore officiating. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Rt. 20 in Bluewell, W.Va. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Friday.
