MATOAKA — Oma Akers

MATOAKA — Oma W. Akers, 86, of Matoaka, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at her home. Born November 18, 1926 at Pickshin, she was the daughter of the late Nathan Mills and Versie Lusk Mills.

Mrs. Akers was a member of the Rich Creek Baptist Church at Spanishburg. She enjoyed her flower garden and loved spending time with grandchildren. She collected cookie jars, salt and pepper shakers, magnets and porcelain dolls.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Akers in 2008; one daughter, Wanda Walker; two brothers, Dasil Mills and Basil Mills; two sisters, Loma Combs and Lana Reed; one grandson, Clinton Ray Hall.

Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Hall and her husband Clifford and Connie Cook and her husband Randall, all of Matoaka and Debbie Barbour and her husband John, of Rock; two sons, Clinton Akers, Jr. and his wife Vickie, of Princeton and Harold Akers and his wife Kimbery, of Beeson; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one half brother, Ralph Robertson and wife of Egeria; one brother-in-law, Francis (Penny) Combs, of Cool Ridge; one sister-in-law Myrtle Mills, of Oakvale and one son-in-law, Tola Walker, of Bluefield.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Ralph Calfee officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be Randall Cook, Jr., Jarred Cook, Clinton Akers, Jr., Bobby Barbour, Nathan Akers and Terry Combs.
