Reverend Sherman Whitley Pruett

NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. — Reverend Sherman Whitley Pruett, age 64, of the Mudfork community of North Tazewell, Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 13, 2013. He was a patient at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va.

Born December 23, 1948 in Tazewell County, Va., he was a son of the late Sherman Lee Pruett and Elzie Cleo Pruett Craighead. Reverend Pruett was the Pastor of Stoney Ridge Assembly where he also served as teacher and musician for over twenty-five years. He was a retired heavy equipment operator.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Cora Baldwin and Mary Barrett; and son-in-law, Wayne David Dale. Whitley was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Charity Case Pruett; two daughters, Dee Dale and Chris Keen and husband, Anthony all of North Tazewell, Va.; one sister, Betty Joe Pruett of North Tazewell, Va.; two brothers, Samuel Pruett and wife, Pansy and Joseph Harold Pruett and wife, Betty Lou all of Bluefield, Va.; two grandsons, Dwayne Mitchell-Dale and Jeremy Keen both of North Tazewell, Va.; one granddaughter, Candace Keen of North Tazewell, Va.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Reverend Darrell Ray officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. Pallbearers will be Dwayne Mitchell-Dale, Jeremy Keen, Cody Baldwin, Ed Matney, Cody Jones, and John Ross. Samuel Pruett will serve as honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013.
