BLUEFIELD, Va. —
Bernard Ray Harrell, 81, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 21, 2013. Bernard was born on April 26, 1931 in Falls Mills, Va. to the late George E. and Lula Wimmer Harrell. He was born into a large, loving family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Etter Harrell; brothers, Clyde W. Harrell, Frank E. Harrell, and Charles Harrell and sisters, Mildred Hess and Betty Clark.
Left to preserve his memory are his sons: Ron and wife Kathy of Franklinton, N.C., and Steve and wife Kristie of Whitehouse, Texas. Bernard had three lovely granddaughters whom he cherished: Savannah Harrell of Panama City Beach, Fla., and Lindsey and Caroline Harrell, both of Whitehouse, Texas; sister, Rocine Farmer of Cleveland, Ohio; and sisters-in-law, Georgia White of Bluefield, Va. and Anne Harrell of Bluefield, W.Va.
Bernard served his country in the Army for three years, then returned home to work and live in the Bluefield area. He worked for Norfolk Western Railway for almost 50 years. He was an active member of Parkview Baptist Church until the time of his illness, helping to build the sanctuary that is currently in use. He was also an avid worker and supporter of the Bland Ministry Center.
Visitation will be at Dudley Funeral Home in Bluefield, Va. on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with funeral following at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Lacy Brooks officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, W.Va. immediately following.
