Thomas Robert Gilpin, Sr.

PRINCETON — PRINCETON — Thomas Robert Gilpin, Sr., 92, of 201 East Drive in Princeton died Monday, November 18, 2013 at Princeton Community Hospital.

Born September 18, 1921 in Princeton he was the son of the late, Royce Gilpin and Margaret Rogers Gilpin. Tom was a U.S. Army Air Corp pilot serving in World War II and in the Korean War in the Air Guard and was a West Virginia National Guard member. He stayed with and eventually retired from the West Virginia National Guard with twenty eight years service attaining the rank of Major. He was a former Parts Manager at Gibbs Motor Company and Dempsey Chevrolet in Princeton. Tom was a member of the First Christian Church and served as a Deacon. He was a fifty year plus member of the Princeton Elks Lodge #1459.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine “Gerry” Gross Gilpin; one granddaughter, Mara Gilpin; and two sisters, Charlotte Harman and Isabelle Arrington.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas R. “Tom” Gilpin and wife, Lynne of Princeton and Michael R. “Mike” Gilpin and wife, Cindy of Eastover, N.C.; five grandchildren, Royce Gilpin and wife, Leslie, Sean Gilpin, Robert Gilpin, Craig Gilpin, and Ashley Gilpin Jeffers and her husband, “A.J”;  and one sister, Josephine Shultz of Wytheville, Va.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 22, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Princeton with Rev. Bill Pollack officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Princeton with the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 21, 2013 (today).
