Brenda Kay Carroll Thompson, 58, of Sandlick went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born September 5, 1955 in Bluefield she was the daughter of the late Frank Carroll and Virginia Ellis Carroll.
She resided in Chicago for 27 years before moving back to her hometown in 2001. She attended Rock Independent Bible Church of God where her brother, Rev. Roger Carroll pastors. She was the manager of Hillbilly Trading Post on New Hope Road for several years. Brenda loved cooking for and spending time with her family. She enjoyed planning family get togethers, reunions and special trips with the girls to Tennessee. She was very devoted to her children and grandchildren. Brenda was the love, life and laughter to her family. She will be loved and missed dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Frank Carroll, Charles Carroll, Robert Carroll, Bill Carroll and Ernest “Red” Carroll and three sisters, Betty Sue Lusk, Virginia Johnston and Ruby Taylor.
Survivors include John “JW” Thompson; one son, Chris Thompson and wife Isnie Memishi Thompson of Summit, Illinois; one daughter, Melissa Thompson-Hourani and husband Nasser Hourani of Justice, Illinois; four grandchildren, Haley Thompson and Christopher Thompson both of Summit, Illinois and Jordan Hourani and Jack Hourani both of Justice, Illinois; two brothers, Rev. Roger Carroll and wife Vickie and Ronnie Carroll and wife Debbie all of Bluefield; seven sisters, Shelby McPherson and husband Larry, Peggy Thompson and husband Charles all of Bluefield, Pat Davis and husband Bill of Princeton, Charlene Blankenship of Stafford, Virginia, Katherine Morris of Florida, Thelma Davis of Beckley and Elizabeth Blankenship of Baltimore, Maryland; special friend who was like a son, Robert Ellsworth of Marion, Ohio and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2014 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Roger Carroll officiating. Interment will follow at the Carroll Family Cemetery on Sandlick Road. Pallbearers will be Brett Carroll, Jimmy Davis, Steve Wine, Mike Horton, Wes McPherson and Kevin Underwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Ellsworth and Scott Thompson.
Friends may visit from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
