BLAND, Va. —
Henry R. Harris, age 85, of Bland, died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at his home. Born in Rich Valley, VA, he was the eldest of 13 children born to the late Toby Carl and Lena Farmer Harris. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 1/2 years, Edyth M. Harris; a son, David Allen; an infant great-grandson, Jonathan Washer; four brothers, Carl, June, George, and John Harris; two sisters, Margaret Thomas and Bertha Zimmer.
Henry was a carpenter in Washington, D.C. for many years, retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, and a farmer.
He is survived by two daughters, Connie Blankenship of Little Creek, VA and Rebecca Harris of Bastian, VA; two sons, Carl (Nenita) Harris, Sr. of Columbia, MD and Mark (Sherry) Harris of Max Meadows, VA; twelve grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ella Mae (Jimmy) Tuggle of Marion, VA, Jean (Ronnie) Crigger of Saltville, VA, Jenni Riley of Lebanon, VA; three brothers, Bill Harris of Marion, VA, Tony (Rose) Harris of Chilhowee, VA, Ed Harris, Mouth of Wilson, VA; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate, VA with the Rev. Jason McNeese and Rev. Ron Patterson officiating. Burial in the Shiloh Cemetery, Hollybrook. Visitation will be Saturday at the funeral home from 5:00 until service time.
