Raymond Curtis Elswick

POUNDING MILL, Va. — Raymond Curtis Elswick, age 77, of Pounding Mill, VA passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014 at his home.

He was born in Drill, Virginia and was the son of the late Columbus Elswick and Beulah Hess Keene. Mr. Elswick was a Richlands High School Class of 1954 graduate. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service at the rank of Master Sgt. Mr. Elswick was a member of the Claypool Hill Bible Church. He worked many years at Island Creek VP #3 and was a member of the UMWA. He was a lifelong resident of the Pounding Mill area.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by stepfather, Milton Keene; one sister; several step brothers and sisters.

He is survived by: Wife, Virginia Gaynell Kennedy Elswick. Two daughters: Deana Mash and husband, Terry of Pounding Mill, VA, Sabrina Gann and husband, Derrick of Dickson, TN. One son: Barry Elswick and wife, Marybeth of Richlands, VA. Two sisters: Betty Schwartz of Goldsboro, MD, Della Burnette of Bedford, VA. Three stepbrothers: Ursel Keene, Jack Keene, and Tommy Keene. Also surviving are six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services for Raymond Curtis Elswick will be conducted Monday, January 27, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, VA with Brandon Hay and the Rev. Steve Tegler officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Members of the Casey Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm Sunday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
