PRINCETON — Winford Eugene “Gene” Akers, 88, of 4885 Clover Dew Dairy Road in Princeton died Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at his residence. Born October 13, 1925 in York, KY he was the son of the late John Tyler Akers and Nellie Thompson Akers.

Gene was a retired construction worker and a U.S. Navy veteran. He attended Fairview Community Christian Church in Princeton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Helen “Ginger” Nestor Akers; and one brother, Seibert Akers.

Survivors include one sister, Velma Charlene Hight of Sarasota, FL; sister-in-law, Irene Nestor of Princeton; and special friend, Shirley White of Princeton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Larry Dyer officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 PM until the service hour on Sunday. Interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 27, 2014 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be Rodney Nestor, Daniel Nestor, Denny Nestor, Renn Carr, John Danieley, and David Wirt. Those attending the graveside service on Monday are asked to meet at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton by 10:30 AM.
