Clayton E. Phillips

GRAFTON, Ohio — Clayton E. Phillips, age 79 of Grafton, Ohio passed away in Elyria Memorial Hospital on Thursday, June 12, 2014 following a short battle with cancer. He was born November 25, 1934 in Pipestem, West Virginia and had lived in the Grafton area since 1955.

He was a member of the North Eaton Baptist Church and had retired from Ford Motor Company in Brookpark where he worked for 35 years. He was also a member of the local UAW. Clayton was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved coaching Hotstove Baseball. He also enjoyed wood working, golfing, going back to West Virginia and his John Deere tractor.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Margaret (nee Cochran), his daughter Yvonne (Eric) Moen of North Ridgeville, sons Michael (Monica) Phillips of Grafton, Ron (Denise) Phillips of Grafton and Russell Phillips of South Carolina.

Survivors also include 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, sisters Sue (J.W.) Howell of Princeton, WV, Mildred Hazelwood of NC and by his brother Jerry Lee Phillips of WV.

He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Hazel (nee Lilly) Phillips and by his sister Dorothy Jean Wingfield.

Friends may call at the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton on Monday, June 16, 2014 from 5- 8 PM. Funeral services will be held in the North Eaton Baptist Church, 12109 Reed Rd., Grafton on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 11 AM with Pastor Stephen Carter officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, Ohio.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to the church.
