Bert Marshall Stewart

BURLINGTON, N.C. — Bert Marshall Stewart, 78, of Burlington, NC and formerly of Bluefield, WV, died Wednesday, June 4, 2014 in Graham, NC.       

Born October 4, 1935 in Bluefield, WV, he was a son of the late Charles Stewart and Sadie Lanford Stewart. Mr. Stewart was educated in Mercer County Schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. After learning to cook in the Army, he became a chef. He worked at Fincastle Country Club, Bluefield Country Club, Shoney's, and at Wendy's on Ambrose Lane in Princeton from 1997 until his retirement. Mr. Stewart also sharpened bits for the mines at Mustard Equipment. He was a member of the Salvation Army Church and First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bluefield, and Word of Life in Burlington.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Aileen L.L. Stewart; children, Burt Stewart, Jr., Robert McKinley Stewart, Carolyn Lowe Stewart, and Alberta Louise Tucker; sons-in-law, Bruce Tucker and Christopher Price; brothers, Frank, Tom, and Walter Stewart; and sisters, Annie Stewart Cox and Mary Stewart Addair.

Survivors include his children, Michael Stewart of Jacksonville, NC, Stephen Stewart of Banner Elk, NC, Mark Anthony Stewart of Seattle, WA, Bernard Stewart of San Antonio, TX, Charles Stewart of Princeton, WV, Robert Stewart of Bluefield, WV, Gloria Stewart of Burlington, NC, Donna Russo of Bluefield, WV, and Deborah Stewart Price of Bluefield, WV; two sisters in Baltimore, MD; and several nieces and nephews.  

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. from Mercer Funeral Home Chapel in Bluefield, WV with Captain Jerry Lester officiating.

Burial will be private.
