Pauline Mattie Phillips Hayden

PRINCETON — On Thursday, June 5, 2014, an angel of the Lord escorted the spirit of our precious jewel Pauline M. Phillips Hayden back to God.

Pauline was born March 3, 1924, in Woolwine, VA, to the late John Henry and Catherine Spencer Phillips. Pauline was brought up in a loving Christian home and accepted Jesus Christ at a young age and remained faithful to Him until her death. Pauline attended the public schools of Patrick County, VA, and McDowell County, WV. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to John W. Hayden on June 20, 1942.

Pauline worked in the medical field for a number of years. Her last employment was at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC, where she retired. Mrs. Hayden was a member of J.H. Easley Tabernacle U.H.C., and a former member of St. Matthew U.H.C. where she worked in all departments and was affiliated with Saints Memorial C.O.G.I.C.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Hayden; one son, Ernest Hayden; eight brothers, James, Lester, Posey, Oliver, Calvin, David, Jessie, and Daniel; and three sisters, May Cuthbertson, Martha Pullins, and Geneva Rucker.

Loved ones left to cherish her memories include one daughter, Althea Hayden of Washington, DC; one nephew she raised, Reginald Phillips and wife Angela of Silas, Alabama; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Phillips of Princeton, and Mary Phillips of Bluefield; caregivers, her niece Robyn Williams and family, and her nephew, Oliver Rucker and his wife Myria; and a host of other family members and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at 12:00 noon Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Elder Donald Conner, Bishop Dwight Palmer, and the Reverend Larry Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens on Littlesburg Road in Bluefield. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
