BRISTOL, Va. —
He was born June 25, 1936 to the late Leonard and Myrtle Hill of Tazewell, Va.
He was a graduate of Tazewell High School and McClain’s Business School. He spent four years in the Air Force. He was retired division manager for Smith’s Transfer Corporation. Upon retirement, he went to work at Atlanta Motor Line and Ryder Logistics. He was an avid sportsman, participating in area senior leagues. He also loved to paint and read.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Bernice Barnett Hill; his children, Stephen Hill and wife, Robin of Blountville, Tenn.; Kim Arrants and husband, John of Bristol, Tenn.; three granddaughters, Laura Singer and husband, Steven; Makayla and Breannah Arrants; two great-granddaughters, Ella and Maya Singer; brother, Mike Hill and wife, Robin of Tazewell, Va.; two sisters, Drema Brescia and husband, Tony of Christianburg, Va., and Sandra Karnes and husband, Elbert of Abingdon, Va.; mother-in-law, Alberta Barnett of Bandy, Va., along with several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013 in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Ron Reeves, Don Necessary and Bill Carmody officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Military Rites conducted by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Eric Karnes, Nick Brescia, Steve Dobler, Terry Smith, David Simmons and Elmer Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Herring, Don Necessary and Bill Carmody. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday at Akard Funeral Home.
