Leroy Bird Stinnette, 86, of Low Gap Road, Princeton passed away Friday morning, December 27, 2013 at his home. Born in Mercer County on January 31, 1927 he was the third of seven children.
He is preceded in death by his parents mother Era, and father Clay; brothers Harry, Leonard, Russell, and a sister Mable. He is also preceded in death by an infant brother.
He was a proud veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. Lee worked on the Virginian Railroad in Elmore, WV. In the early 1960s Lee and his beautiful wife moved to Hampton, VA where he worked at the shipyards; retiring in early 2000. In 2005 they moved back to WV to be near family. He loved numbers, grew the best tomatoes and loved country ham.
Lee is survived by his wife of 55 years Betty Joyce Neal, and brothers Raymond of Venice, Fl and Robert and wife Shirley of Baltimore, MD. Sister-in-law, Alice Tolliver of Princeton. Brother-in-law, Roy Neal and his wife Emily of Dundalk, MD. Uncle Lee and Aunt Betty had no children, but they had lots of nieces and nephews who loved them dearly. Shirley Miller was a close and special friend who also shares in our loss.
Services to celebrate the life of Leroy Stinnette will be held Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 1:00 PM from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Larry Dyer officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Princeton where military honors will be conducted by the Mercer County Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until the service hour.
