Carl Edward “Eddie” Kessinger

SPANISHBURG — Carl Edward “Eddie” Kessinger, 81, of the Eads Mill Road, Camp Creek, died peacefully Sunday evening, October 27, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born June 19, 1932, at Camp Creek, he was the son of the late Leonard H. Kessinger and Pansy Pearl Lilly Kessinger.

Mr. Kessinger was a veteran of the Korean conflict serving with the U.S. Army; he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Kessinger was a self made man, having worked in the coal mines, construction business, brick and stone mason, timberman, supplying props to the mines and farmer.

While his health permitted, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, trout fishing and being outside and enjoying nature…

He was attending Gloryland Baptist Church at Camp Creek.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Irene Worrell Kessinger along with five siblings: Ruby Nell Hayner, Leonard H. Kessinger Jr., Norman Lee McGinnis, Lilly Ann Meadows, and Jackie Cannon.

Survivors include his four children: Vera Lilly and husband Mike of Spanishburg, Carl E. Kessinger Jr. and wife Reva, Jeff Kessinger and wife Ramonia, Rita Kessinger Hebb and husband Randy all of Princeton. Grandchildren: James Lilly and wife Lori, Steven E. Kessinger and fiancée Krista Pauley, Paris Joshua Kessinger and wife Mariel, Matthew Kessinger, Christopher Kessinger, Aaron Scott Primmer. One great-granddaughter, Madison Lilly. One sister, Mary Jane Shrewsberry and husband David of Shady Springs. A host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 30, 2013 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Ray Mills speaking. Burial will follow in the Kessinger Family Cemetery at Camp Creek. Military honors will be given by the Blue Gray Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

His grandsons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

The Kessinger family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory & Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
