JACK R. GILLISPIE

PRINCETON — PRINCETON - Jack R. Gillespie, 64, of Princeton died from a short but courageous battle with cancer on  Monday, October 14, 2013 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. Born January 11, 1949 at Glen Rogers, he was the son of the late, Leo O'Neal and Jo Ann Akers O'Neal.

He was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Princeton. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in Germany where he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Expert Marksman Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.  He was a retired coal miner and operator with many years of service. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Gillispie; and one sister, Stella O' Neal.

Survivors include his wife, Emily Christol Gillispie; one daughter, Vickie Sparks and husband, Robbie of Tazewell, Va.; two step-daughters, Christy Jennings and husband, Ross of Princeton and Jessica Whitt of Roanoke, Va. and her fiancé, Robert Buresh; two grandchildren, Dalton Goode of Princeton and Trey Sparks of Tazewell, Va.; three sisters, Shelby Graham of Princeton, Kitty Wood and husband, Garland of Visalia, California and Drema Monk and husband, Eugene of Mullens; a special niece, Davina Patrick of Hazelhurst, Miss.; a special nephew, Shaun Graham of Princeton; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Reverend Marvin Mills and the Reverend Hugh McKinney officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Council. Pallbearers will be Mike Barton, Billie Cooper, Charlie Workman, Richard Lambert, David Hylton and Jerry Dove.
