SPRINGVILLE, Va. — Lucy M. Thompson, age 91, of Springville Virginia., passed away Wednesday morning, March 27, 2013, at Westwood Center, Bluefield, Virginia.
Lucy was born January 1, 1922, in Springville, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Floyd Thompson and Florence Octavia Earls Thompson. Lucy was a member of the Bailey United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by eight sisters and one brother in the distant past. One son, Arthur Homer Thompson and one grandson, Joseph Patton Thompson, also preceded her in death,
She is survived by sisters, Lola Stevens, of North Tazewell, Virginia and Sue Brown, of Tazewell, Virginia. Survivors include son, Jack H. Thompson and wife Joan, of North Tazewell, Virginia; son, Roger L. Thompson and wife Cathy of Riner, Virginia; and daughter-in-law, Patsy Crockett Thompson of Gaston, South Carolina. She is survived by 10 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren. Extended family include Drs. Ram and Sunita Bhasin and the many caregivers and staff at the Westwood Center in Bluefield, Virginia.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Dudley Funeral Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Virginia with the Rev. Ray Amos and the Rev. Steve Aker officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Bailey United Methodist Church, c/o Rhonda Hodock, 1420 Bailey Switch Road, Bluefield, Virginia 24605. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Bluefield, Virginia. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
