SOMERSET, Ky. —
Lois Fortune Womack, 84, of Somerset, Kentucky, died on Thursday, November 15, 2012, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee on September 28, 1928 to the late Willie and Gertrude Gammon Fortune.
Lois was a wonderful wife and mother. She supported her husband, Jim, throughout his 38-year career with the Norfolk and Western Railroad and raised three loving and devoted children. Known as "Nanny" by her grandchildren, she loved nothing better than to spend time with them at home, at the beach, or in the country.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, her parents, and three siblings.
She is survived by a son and two daughters: Ray Womack (Meg) of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Kathe Buchanan (Phil) of Daleville, Virginia, and Patty Ellis (Larry) of Somerset, Kentucky, with whom she had made her home for the past seven years. She is also survived by six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and four siblings.
In accordance with her wishes, her body will be cremated. A private family celebration of Lois' life will be held at a later date.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 4930 Country Club Rd., Troutville, VA 24175.
