Neta B. Hamilton
BLUEFIELD — Neta B. Hamilton 89, of Bluefield, West Virginia passed away suddenly at home Monday the 8th day of April 2013. God and all his infinite wisdom, love, and grace, called her home.
Born June 5th, 1923 in Floyd County, Virginia, Neta was one of 8 children born to Asa D. Burnette and Lillie Wade Burnette. Neta was a graduate of Auburn High school, Riner, Virginia and the West Virginia Business College in Bluefield, West Virginia. Neta was employed as an accountant and office manager for Platnick Brothers in Bluefield, Virginia retiring after 23 years of service. Neta also served as secretary for the Bluefield Fashion Exhibitors for more than 40 years.
Neta was energetic, she was a tireless and selfless volunteer who enjoyed being of service to others. Neta remained active in numerous community and civic affairs until her death. Neta was a member of the Bluefield Lioness Club, a former member of the Bluefield Civic League, and the Pink Dogwood Garden Club. Neta also enjoyed volunteering for the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. Neta often provided transportation for those in need, including patients receiving cancer treatment, and those needing assistance with errands and grocery shopping. Neta was an active member of Bland Street United Methodist Church and Circle No. 2 for over 50 years.
In addition to volunteering Neta enjoyed reading, taking walks, yard work, and caring for her flower gardens. Friends and neighbors may recall seeing Neta mowing her steep lawn in golf cleats well into her 80’s. Neta was strong-willed, hardworking, and independent throughout her life. Neta enjoyed any opportunity to shower others with her kindness and generosity. Neta will be sadly missed by her family and all that had the honor and privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husband, Preston P. Hamilton; step-son Robert P. Hamilton; Sister, Pauline B. Connelly; six additional brothers and sisters and nephew Jerry D. Connelly.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory: Stepson, Steve Hamilton; Grandson, Ryan Hamilton; granddaughter, Cortney Hamilton; Nieces, Vicki Hawkins and husband Jerry, Sandra Hill and husband Patrick, Ann Duncan; Nephews, James Burnette, Rick French; Great-Niece, April Christ and husband Joshua; Great-Nephews, Jerry D. Connelly II, Geoffrey Hawkins and wife Janelle; Great-great-nieces, Addison Christ and Mara McPherson-Connelly; Sister-in-law, Deanna Mallory and husband Gary, Toye Owens
The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Saturday April 13, 2012 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Hall officiating.
Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where Ryan Hamilton, Jerry Connelly, II, Rick French, Gary Mallory, Joshua Christ, Patrick Hill, Jerry Hawkins and Larry Lindamood will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be A.A. “Lon” Hopkins, Bob Blair, John Mahood, Michael Gates, David Gates.
