SOUTH CHARLESTON — Garland Everett Vaught Sr., 68, was called to his Heavenly home while surrounded by his loving family on April 6, 2013 at his home in South Charleston, W.Va. after a long battle with cancer. He was born March 21, 1945 in Princeton, W.Va. to Laban A. Vaught Sr. and Bonnie D. Sumpter Vaught.

He attended and graduated Spanishburg High School where he made the decision to become a plumber. Garland owned and Operated A-Action Plumbing Company for 41 years. As a general contractor he served the Kanawha Valley and surrounding areas. His open and affable personality paired with his business practices gained him many friends and loyal customers, some of which he worked for over 30 years. His pastimes included spending time at the family farm, fishing, hunting gardening and shag dancing. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing and Myrtle Beach Vacations. He was a member of the Charleston Moose Lodge and Charleston Area Shag Society.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Garland Everett Vaught Jr.; his brothers, Laban Vaught Jr., Lynwood “Woody” Vaught, and Charles Maynard; and his sisters, Zella Joyce Pennington, Caroline and Clara Janet.

He leaves behind a large and loving family that includes his devoted and caring wife of 48 years, Linda Vaught; his son, Jason Vaught (wife, Tara) and daughter Sarah Vaught, all of Charleston, W.Va.; his granddaughter, Amber Vaught, of Sandusky, Mich.; grandson, Thomas Vaught, of Barboursville, W.Va.; and four great-grandchildren, Jazmin, Taylor, Rebecca and Kyle; eight brothers and sisters and spouses, Dorothy and Don Harless of Rich Creek, Clyde and Ilene Vaught of Princeton, Dasil and Christene Vaught of Charleston, Gae and Clifford White Sr. of Lake Bottom, Daisy (Mae) and John Shrewsbury of Sissonville, Sam and Shirley Vaught of Camp Creek, Delmas and Shelby Vaught of Athens, Fred and Wanda Vaught of Nubbins Ridge; a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.

A memorial service with visitation, special singing and a celebration of Garland's life will begin at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Garrison Avenue Free Will Baptist Church in Charleston, W.Va. with Pastor Karle Griffith officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6 until 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton, W.Va. The funeral conduction will be held at the same location at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 11, 2013 with Pastor Burton Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Vaught Family Cemetery on Nubbins Ridge near Spanishburg.
