CANEBRAKE — He was born February 29, 1928 at Matoaka, WV and was the son of the late Henry and Georgia Gunter Tyree. Mr. Tyree was a retired coal miner, having worked for many years at Consolidated Coal Co. and a member of the UMWA Local #6025 in Bishop, VA. He had worked for several years at the former G.E. plant in Tazewell, VA. Mr. Tyree was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II, having served during Pearl Harbor and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. Mr. Tyree was a talented artist who enjoyed painting, playing the guitar and fishing. He was a graduate of McLean's Business College in Bluefield, VA and was of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Jacqueline Brown, Myrleen Hines and Ramona Tyree; one grandson, Sergeant First-Class Anthony Barton.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of sixty-four years, Delores Fowler Tyree; four daughters, Jeanetta Shelton and husband, Jimmie of Squire, WV, Anita Honaker and husband, Daniel of Blytheville, AR, Mary Lou Barton and husband, Donald of Princeton, WV and Cynthia Stanley of Lemon Springs, NC; one son, David Tyree and wife, Faye of Sanford, NC; two sisters, Claudia Barnes and Glenna Jarrell and husband, Ray both of Bluefield, WV; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many other family members and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Clinton Hampton Tyree will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA with the Rev. Lawrence Hayes and the Rev. Carter Wells officiating. Entombment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield, VA. Pallbearers will be Mr. Tyree's grandsons and great-grandson.

Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by members of the Barns-Beavers VFW Post #7136 in Tazewell, VA.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014.
