Mark A. Shawver

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Mark A. Shawver, 52, of Shawver Road, Bluefield, Va. went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Westwood Center Medical Park after a long fought battle with diabetes.

Born September 23, 1961 in Fairfax, Va., he was the son of Gail L. Shawver of Bluefield, Va. and the  late Robert “Bob” Shawver. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Reed and Elva Caudill, and Robert “Wes” and Pearl Shawver. He was also preceded in death by three uncles, Harrison, Gordon and Lonnie Caudill and two aunts, Cora Viers and Marie Evans.

Mark was a graduate of Bluefield High School, class of 1978 and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bluefield College in 1985.

He was a beloved son and a bright outgoing individual who loved to make people laugh. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his mother, (and close friend), Gail L. Shawver. He is also survived by his uncle Jessi Caudill of Manassas, Va., his aunt Betty Lester of Louisa, Va. and his dear friend and adopted brother, Doug Minnix of Bluefield, Va. His extended “family” also includes his physician and friend, Dr. Phil Peterson of Bluefield, Va.

A service to celebrate the life of Mark A. Shawver will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2014, 2 pm at Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with the Pastor Hugh Cole officiating and Hospice Pastor Larry Brooks. Friends may visit with the family Wednesday at the funeral home  from 1 pm till hour of service. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens.

Serving as pallbearers will be Doug Minnix, Caden Minnix, Dave Keene, Charlie Long, Chris Witt and Jerry Holston.
