BLUEFIELD, Va. — James Ronald “Ronnie” Asbury, 69, of 192 Vermillion Drive, Bluefield, Va., passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Va.

Born in Bluefield, W.Va., he was the son of Sylvia Lampert Asbury and the late James Thomas Asbury. He was preceded in death by his father and a nephew, Michael Asbury.

Ronnie was a graduate of Graham High School and was a member of Graham Christian Church.

He enjoyed photographing nature as a past time hobby. In 1963, he began a career at Dudley Memorial Mortuary spanning 48 years. In 1973, he obtained his Funeral Directors license from the state of Virginia and for the past 20 years he has been manager of the firm. In his tenure at the funeral home, he has served countless families in their time of loss. His compassion, concern, courtesy, and constancy made him loved and respected by all who knew him professionally and personally. He will be dearly miss by his family and  his friends in this community.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother: Sylvia Asbury of Bluefield, Va.; his wife, Peggy Alice Parsley Asbury, daughters: Deborah Femi and husband Ron of Louisville, Ky., Carla Estep and husband Gary of Glade Springs, W.Va., Letha Parsley and Ron  of Charleston, S.C.; son: Gary Gene Walker of Charlotte, N.C.; brother:  Thomas “Tommy” Asbury and wife Shirley of Blountville, Tenn.; sister: Pam Daniels of Bluefield, Va.; grandchildren: Christopher Sheppard and wife Camela of Bluefield, Va., Lillian Femi of Louisville, Ky., Ashley Estep of Glade Springs, W.Va., Lindsey Parsley of Charleston, S.C.; great-granddaughter: Hailey Sheppard, whom he adored; nieces: Dondria Asbury and Lori Daniels; great-niece: Sierra Campanella.

A service to celebrate Ronnie’s life will be held Sunday, June 30, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va., with the Rev. Ted Anders and the Rev. Ray Amos officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. His family will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may visit with the family Saturday, June 29, 2013 from 6-8 p.m.
