PRINCETON — Ossie Lee Allen Callen, 84, of 705 High Street in Princeton died Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.
Born September 23, 1929 in Perry County, Ala. she was the daughter of the late, Alex Allen, Sr. and Margaret Ann Gates. Ossie graduated from Lafayette Academy Inc. in 1976 and worked as a Kitchen Aide and Medical Assistant at the Old Princeton Hospital and retired after several years of service.
In addition, she was a fulltime Foster Parent for over thirty five years and a partime babysitter for her family and others in the community. Ossie was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, now Shiloh A Place to Worship, since 1955.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kater Callen; one sister, Thelma Allen Todd; and three brothers, Leroy Allen, Alex Allen, Jr., and Albert Brooks.
Survivors include one son, Dexter Callen and wife, Martha of Princeton; two very special children, Candace Johnson and husband, Godric of Northern, Va. and Kater “K.C.” Callen of Princeton; two brothers, John Reese and wife, Dorothy of Selma, Ala. and Charles Brooks and wife, Lyndia of Michigan; one sister, Mary Ola Brooks Hunt and husband, Edward of Tennessee; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and others who she considered her sons and daughters throughout the years.
Ossie, Maw-Maw, Ma-Ma, Auntie, Aunt Mattie, Sister, Friend, Mother, so many names that we know her by, will be greatly missed. Ossie was a little woman with a “Big Heart” and her compassion for others was unique and cannot be duplicated and we Thank Her.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Friday, November 22, 2013 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Bishop Charles Stores, III, Minister D.D. Moore, Rev. Greg Howard, and Pastor Robert Dykes officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens on Littlesburg Road.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour on Friday.
