Giles Eldridge Hammond, 80, of Princeton, died Monday, May 30, 2011 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born November 11, 1930 at Matoaka, he was the son of the late Robert Thomas and Idabelle Hammond Thomas.
Mr. Hammond was retired from The Dean Company in Princeton as a crane operator. He was a member of the Princeton Church of God and also attended Rogers Street Community Church. He loved wood working.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one stepson, Terry Alan Joy; one sister, Irene Thomas; and one brother, Robert Lee Thomas.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Dorothy Cordell Hammond of the home; one daughter, Lynn Wright of Tennessee; one stepdaughter, Vicky Akers and her husband Clinton of Princeton; one son, Eldridge D. Hammond of North Carolina; one brother, Preston Thomas of Princeton; two sisters, Betty Ann Griffith of Ohio and Georgie Barnett and her husband the Reverend David Barnett of Green Valley; and several grandchildren and stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Fred Farley officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
