Doris J. “Bootsie” “Tootsie” Gartlan

BEAUFORT, S.C. — Doris J. “Bootsie” “Tootsie” Gartlan, 81, wife of William “Bill” Gartlan, of Beaufort, SC, died Saturday, January 11, 2014 in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 5-7 pm at Anderson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 1:00 pm in Carl Anderson Memorial Chapel with interment in Beaufort National Cemetery.

Mrs. Gartlan was born on November 28, 1932 in Speedwell, VA. She is the daughter of the late Robert Wingate and Mary Eanes Wingate.

She was a devoted wife of 62 years married to her high school sweetheart. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was compassionate and had a strong love for family. She was selfless and would do whatever she could to help those around her succeed. She took great pride in her family while exuding a silent strength about herself. She was an artist, her paintings telling the story of her youth. She was also a writer, her poems and stories will leave us with many memories for years to come.

We love you Doris, Bootsie, Tootsie, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma Gartlan with the white hair, and Mimi. You have forever touched each and every one of us. We thank you for all that you have taught us. Forever in our hearts. Rest peacefully till we meet again (there's no peace and quiet when we're all together!)

Surviving in addition to her husband, Bill; are three sons, Keith Gartlan (Caroline) and Darrell Gartlan (Rita) all of Beaufort, SC; Richard Gartlan of West VA; two sisters, Catherine King of Evans, GA and Jean Spraker of Wytheville, VA; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Hospital-Crisis Chaplaincy of the Lowcountry, 599 Stock Farm Rd., Ridgeland, SC 29936.

Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory of Beaufort is serving the family.
