BLUEFIELD, VA. — He was born in Buchanan County, VA and was the son of the late Doc and Laura Gilbert Dales.

Mr. Dales served his country in the US Army and was a member of the American Legion in Buchanan County, Post # 7360. Although he was a coal miner, he had also worked for GTE and was a Golf Caddy for the Dismal River Country Club, a carpenter and a “property manager”. Baptized on September 25, 1983, he was a member of the Big Branch Church of Christ and also served as a deacon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Graham, Junior, Jimmy and Robert Dales and sisters, Stella Hess and Agnes Keene and a daughter, Angela Dales.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 46 years, Evie Sue Stiltner Dales; his son, Joe Dales and wife Kay of Bluefield, VA; brothers, Luther Dales of Richlands, VA and Leonard Dales of Grundy, VA; sisters, Francis Rizzico of Florida, Judy Keen and husband Bob of Pounding Mill, VA and Shirley Ratliff of Abingdon, VA; grandchildren, Rebecca Cariens, Joey, Zach and Ella Dales.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Dales will be held, Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 12:00 noon at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Minister Mike Rife officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill. Serving as pallbearers are Joey Dales, Zach Dales, Tim Ratliff, Jeff Ratliff, Reid Ratliff, Randy Keene, Ronnie Stiltner, Grady Stiltner, Robert Boothe, Jeff Wimmer, Jason Hicks and Kenard Dales. Honorary Pallbearers are Bob Keene, Ricky Dales, Junior Blankenship Kim Matzel, Mike Fletcher, Luther Dales, Leonard Dales, Monty Ramella, Emory Sarver, Brad Vandyke, Joe Phelgar, Ronald Lee Moore and Tony Dales.

Friends visited with the family Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dudley Memorial is serving the Dales family.
