Born May 30, 1927 in Pulaski, VA he was a son of the late Glen Morris and Ruby Vest Morris.
Elmer was a member of Athens Baptist Church, Athens, WV. As a young boy had fond memories of time spent with his Aunt Helen. At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He also felt called to work to build and repair churches in the area. He was proud of his yard and garden, and enjoyed sharing produce from his garden with others.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Sallie Mae Morris.
He is survived by his two daughters: Shelia Mullett and her husband Bill of Downingtown, PA and Faye Cohen and her husband Steve of Midlothian, VA; 3 sisters; Reba Phelps and her husband Richard of Cleveland, TN, Janet Harman and her husband Bill of Princeton, WV, Becky Hicks and her husband David of Pulaski, VA; a brother Timmy Morris and wife Donna of Tazewell, VA; four grandchildren, Nicole Hall and her husband Bill of Downingtown, PA, Ben Cohen of Birmingham, AL, Beth Wild and her husband Josh of Sanford, FL, Katherine Cohen of Midlothian, VA and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Natalie Hall.
Memorial services will be conducted Thursday January 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Mercer Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Drake officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to service time.
