POCAHONTAS, Va. — Robert C. Farley, Sr. 89 was called to his eternal home on Friday, December 13, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at his home on Paradise Lane in Pocahontas, Va. He was a member of the Pocahontas Baptist Church and a retired coal miner with 35 years' service having worked in Boissevain, Jenkinjones and Itmann.

As a young boy, he was compelled to quit school to assist the family through the depression. He was part of Roosevelt's Civilian Conservation Corp. Upon leaving the Corp, he immediately went to work in the mines that provided coal for the war effort.
