Mabel Linger See Weidlich

CHARLESTON — On October 1, 2012 surrounded by family, Mabel Linger See Weidlich left her earthly home to be with her Heavenly Father and her immediate family. In Heaven, she joined her parents, Ralph W. See and Catherine Linger See, and her sisters: Enola Martin and Irene Hall, and her brother: Ralph W. See Jr. She was the last member of her immediate family.

She was born on May 23, 1924 on Ranges Run in Lewis County. She started school at Round Knob School House, a one room school and graduated from Weston High School. Following high school, she attended Fairmont State College, graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Education in 1944. Following college, she accepted a teaching position in Kitzmiller, Maryland for a few years, then returned to West Virginia.

On a beautiful sunny afternoon on June 12, 1946, she married the love of her life, Robert James Weidlich, following his service in the United States Army. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary this year. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband of 431 Copen Drive, Charleston, WV 25302 and three loving daughters and their husbands and families: Judy Riffe Mulkey and husband Larry of Bluefield, Va., Bobbie Dianne Parker and husband John of Charleston, W.Va., and Mabel Ann Greer and husband David of Green Bank, W.Va. She leaves three grandchildren whom she loved dearly: David Anthony Greer of Atlanta, Georgia, Kendra Nicole Greer of Washington, D.C., and Chad Robert Parker of Charleston, W.Va. She also leaves behind one very special little fellow who truly brightened her world, Dylan Michael Newsome of Bluefield, Va.

Following her marriage, she joined her husband in the poultry dressing business, Bob Weidlich, Inc. They continued in business together developing Mountain States Eggs and then African Violets, Inc. She continued to assist Bob when he changed business in Lewis County to the Investment business. She continued to assist him in that business when they moved to Charleston in 1965. Following retirement from the investment business, they owned and operated a large apartment complex, The Oaks, in Dunbar, W.Va. for several years, until they sold it in 2002.

As an adult, there were two things important to her, her Lord and her family. While living in Roanoke, Lewis County where she lived until 1965, she was active in Vandalia Methodist Church, where she served as youth leader and held many offices. She also served as 4-H leader of the Roanoke Happy Go Getters 4-H Club for several years and served as camp counselor at Jackson Mill 4-H Camp. In both church and 4-H activities, her goal was to equip young people with Christian values and principles. After moving to Charleston, she remained active in her church and Women's Aglow. In Aglow, she served in several offices, and was active in her church until failing health prohibited active participation. Mabel and her husband also traveled to Chili, Peru, and Equador on mission trips.

In her personal life, she loved her family dearly and was always eager to help and support her family. She was a very talented cook, and could really prepare a holiday feast or a birthday or family celebration dinner. Her pumpkin pies were a family favorite. She created a loving home for her family. Her hobbies included gardening and reading. She took pride in producing beautiful vegetables and  fruit from there garden. For many years she canned and kept a well-stocked pantry, freezer and cellar. As was her wish, her body has been returned to Lewis County.

Visitation and celebration of life service was held at Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, 730 N. Main Avenue, Weston on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Thursday October 4 at 2 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Dwayne Brown officiating. Interment followed services in Weston Masonic Cemetery.
