The Reverend Fred F. Williams

TAZEWELL, Va. — The Reverend Fred F. Williams, age 76, of the Gratton community in Tazewell, Va., died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at his home following a long illness. Reverend Williams was born in 1936 at Gratton, Va. to W.M. and Betty Yost Williams.

He was the last of eight children and the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Reverend Williams attended Tazewell Elementary School and graduated with the Class of 1954 at Tazewell High School. He attended SWVCC earning an Associate Degree and ETSU where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. He also attended King College and Duke Divinity School. He served the United Methodist Church as pastor for Steelesburg and Davis Chapel in Tazewell County, Clear Springs, Liberty Hill, Milburnton, and Pleasant Hill in Greene County, Tenn., Valley Forge and Roan Mountain in Carter County, Tenn., Beech Grove in Bristol, Va., Shady Grove Washington Chapel, and Green Valley in Abingdon, Va. He retired from the Draper Circuit in Pulaski, Va.

“Mr. Fred” received loving care from the compassionate associates of Legacy Hospice.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Billy, Forest, Sybil, Brooks, Doyle, Charlie, and Ann.

Reverend Williams is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Grindstaff and Elizabeth Boyd and her husband, Joe all of Tazewell, Va.; also surviving are grandsons whom he cherished, Andy Grindstaff of Charlottesville, Va. and Bailey Boyd of Tazewell, Va.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services. The family requests that any memorial donations be directed to Legacy Hospice, Inc., 1963 Second St., Richlands, VA 24641.

Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home of Tazewell, Va. is in charge of arrangements.
