ADA — Florence Violet Roland, 107, of Ada, died early Friday, April 19, 2013 at her residence after a long and independent life.

Born January 5, 1906, in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late James Reed and Bertie Ratcliff Reed.

Mrs. Roland was a member of Ada Church of Christ and a devoted homemaker. She was blessed to live by herself until the close of her life, something she strived to do.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Roland, along with two children, Virginia Mae Spradlin and Burrell Roland, along with a grandchild, Connie Lewis. Along with all of her brothers and sisters, she was the last surviving member of her family.

She will be sadly missed by her seven grandchildren: Bruce and Sharon Spradlin of Lake City Fla., Carol and French Gunter of Troutville Va., Mark Spradlin of Bluefield, Dean and Beverly Spradlin of Green Valley, Myra and Darrell Lilly of Ada, James Spradlin of Green Valley, Sue Martin of Ada; a host of great- grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Minister Jim Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.

Friends may visit with the family Sunday from 4 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
