Robert Glen Clemons, 65, of Goodwyn's Chapel Road in Oakvale slipped away peacefully with his battle with cancer over on Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Beckley, WV. Born August 5, 1948 he was the son of the late Roy Clemons and Elizabeth Jones Clemons.
After graduating from Oakvale High School, he proudly went to serve his country in the Vietnam War. Upon completion of his military service, he went on to work several years at the Lynchburg Foundry, United Hydraulics, and NAPA before retiring. Robert enjoyed horses, NASCAR racing, and his beloved truck “Old Willard”.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Newton, Giles, Paul, and Junior Clemons.
Survivors include his wife of forty-six years, Patricia Thompson Clemons of Oakvale; two daughters, Denita Mitchell and husband Buck of Adair's Run Road and Melissa Clemons of the home; four grandchildren, Santanna Radford, Codie Radford, Makayla Mitchell, and Jonathan Mitchell; two great grandchildren, Mercedes and Landon; one sister, Connie Carroll and husband Randy of Pigeon Creek; one brother, Jack Clemons and wife Betty of Oakvale; and several special nieces, nephews, and friends.
Robert is loved and will be missed by his family and friends. The Lord chooses the journey we will travel in the end but he promises to go with us. And the Lord knows when to call a weary soul home.
In keeping with Robert's wishes, his body has been cremated. A private memorial service for the family will be conducted at the Oakvale Church of the Brethren at Pigeon Creek at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 with Preacher Buck Mitchell offering the eulogy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.
