BLUEFIELD, Va. — Donald Gene Poteet, 75, of 107 Bluestone Dr., Bluefield, Va., died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012 at his home.

He was born in Pocahontas, Va., and was a son of the late Gurthie Edgar Poteet Sr. and Margaret Sadie Osborne Poteet. Don was a 1956 graduate of Graham High School and W.Va. Business College. He worked at New Graham Pharmacy during his school years and at Citizens Coal and Supply and later bought the Coal and Supply Company and was the owner of Poteet Oil and Supply. He later owned and operated The Petite Mart in Bluefield, Va. and currently was employed at the Food City Gas & Go.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Bluefield, and former member of the Elks, Moose and Eagles Lodges.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Gurthie E. Poteet Jr. and William H. Poteet and by sisters, Mary Ella Osborne, Betty Ann Dillman, Nancy Çox and Doris Mae Brooks.

He is survived by two sons, Donald Gene Poteet II and wife Carole of Pembroke, Va., Aldon E. Poteet and wife Mylinda of Abbs Valley, Va.; two daughters, Myra J. Poteet of Bland, Va., Velia D. Maitland and husband Andrew of Bluefield, Va.; sister, Dana Keane Porterfield of Newport, Va.; grandchildren, Tony Martin, Morgan Cline, Andrew Poteet, David Lambert, Joshua, Melanie and Janie Maitland; great-grandchildren, Kierston Martin, Logan Martin, Dillon Spencer, Olivia Lambert, Aiden Gauger and Abbigale Dillow.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 17, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with the Rev. Aaron Watkins officiating. Entombment will follow in the Woodlawn Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Andrew Maitland, Joshua Maitland, B.J. Dishman, Allen Brooks, Russell Brooks and Anthony Osborne.

Friends may visit with the family today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
