B. “Jack” Porter

PRINCETON — B. “Jack” Porter, 90, of 118 Magnolia Street in Princeton died Sunday, November 17, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Glasgow, WV. Born February 7, 1923 in Gilliam, WV, he was the son of the late Joseph Porter and Josie Taylor Porter.

Jack was a retired owner-operator of the ESSO Service Station on Bland Street in Bluefield with thirty years service. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Central Europe during World War II and was a prisoner of war for eight months. Jack was a member of the Ceres Baptist Church in Green Valley and loved visiting the Senior Center on Trent Street in Princeton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel Richardson Porter; second wife, Ruby Riley Porter; one son, Joseph David Porter; and one grandson, William Joseph Bryan Porter.

Survivors include his wife, Alvertia Maxine Harrison Porter of Princeton; one daughter, Brenda Sue Jacobs and husband, J. Ronald Jacobs of Boise, ID; eight grandchildren, Cary Porter and Toni Porter both of Mohawk, WV, Joseph Porter and wife Stephanie of Isaban, WV, Elizabeth Porter of Weirton, WV, Catherine Fabian and husband Robert of Lansing, KS, Christina Lee and husband Brian of Great Falls, MT, Christopher Jacobs and wife Sarah of Boise, ID, and Charles Jacobs and wife Katie of Quarterlane, ID; twenty great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. James Mooney officiating. Entombment will follow at Resthaven Park Mausoleum in Princeton with the Mercer County Veterans Council conducting military graveside rites. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the service hour on Wednesday.
