Born on Power House Hill (Switchback), she was the daughter of the late Andrew Footo and Anna Palco Footo.
Ethel was a graduate of Elkhorn High School, Class of 1944. While living in McDowell County, she was employed by Tug River Health Clinic, First National Bank of Keystone and Gianato Buick and Pontiac Dealership.
She was a devoted and active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Powhatan where she was involved in all aspects of the life of the church.
Upon moving to Princeton seven years ago, she became a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Harrison Street in Princeton.
She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and a dear lady who loved serving her Lord and her church. She was also known for her home made Peanut Butter fudge.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all of her siblings; Helen Bowling, Agnes Footo, Martha Shrader, Thomas Footo, Matthew Footo, Eulalia Footo and Marie Boone. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Those left to cherish her memory, her two devoted and caring children, John T. Cox and wife Maria of Princeton, Mary Ann Williams and husband David of Charleston. Her four grandchildren Michael D. Cox and wife Tabitha of Princeton, Adam N. Cox and wife Jessica of Given, Charles Williams of Charleston, James Williams of San Diego, California; Four great-grandchildren Samuel Addison Cox, Aubrey Vera Cox, Miller Thomas Cox and West Allen Tyler Cox; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Friday, January 10, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Wyoming Street in Bluefield with Father Elpidio M. Geneta JCL as the celebrant. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell.
Friends may visit with the family Thursday from 6 until 8 PM at the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with a Christian Wake Service to be held 7:30 PM with Deacon Don Hammond.
