LEBANON, Va. —
Robert Owens Hillman, 81, of Lebanon, Virginia passed away at his home on Saturday, December 14, 2013. He was an active member of his church, community, and town, devoting many hours to service to others.
Bob was born at home in Finney, Virginia on April 16, 1932. He graduated from Honaker High School and attended Emory and Henry for two years before entering MCV to pursue a degree in pharmacy. He worked as a pharmacist for 56 years. He also served on Lebanon Town Council for ten years and as currently served as the Russell County School Board Member-At-Large. He served as a charter member of Appalachian College of Pharmacy in Grundy, Virginia. He served on the Board of Trustees and was an active member of Lebanon Community Fellowship Church in Lebanon, Va.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father Joseph and Elsie Owens Hillman and his brothers Miles Leland Hillman, Joseph C. (Bud) Hillman, and his sister Lois Hillman Henderson.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Zora Hillman; their three children Owen Hillman and his wife Glenda, Leta Mack, and Charlotte Webb and her husband Kenny; grandchildren: Hannah Bukowski, Zachary Bartee, Camden Hillman, Logan Hillman, Chelsea Warner, Molly Warner, Miles Warner, Charlie Warner; great-grandchildren Quinn Bukowski and Blaze Hillman; his sister Patsy Hillman Junker; several nieces and nephews and special friend of the family Virginia Fuller.
The funeral service will be conducted 7 pm Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Lebanon Community Fellowship Church with the Rev. Jeff Williams, Dr. Dwight Bailey, Rev. Gerald Lester and Rev. Mike Ryan officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 3 pm until 7 pm Sunday, December 15, 2013. Burial will follow on Monday, December 16, 2013 in Green Hills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill. Those wishing to attend are requested to meet at the church by 10 am to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Zachary Bartee, Camden Hillman, Logan Hillman, Miles Warner, Charlie Warner; nephews: Randall Hillman, Mike Hillman, Joe Hillman, Richard Osborne, Steve Henderson, Dean Henderson, Dow Henderson and Kurt Junker; friends and family Dewey Simms, Tommy Griffith, Mike Puckett, Sen. Phillip Puckett, Myrl Allen, John Bartee, Sam Barnette. Honorary pallbearers will be Angie Farmer, the Men of Lebanon Community Fellowship, members of the Russell County School Board, Bill McFarlane, Jerry Lark and A.G. Griffith, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to his church, Lebanon Community Fellowship, 218 Highland Drive, Lebanon, Va. 24266 in his honor.
