William Donald Lambert, 71, of the Pisgah Road, Princeton, died Saturday, June 3, 2006 at his residence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton.

Chester “Roger” Adams
MILTON — Chester “Roger” Adams, 69, of Milton, formerly of Matoaka, died Thursday, June 1, 2006 at the Huntington VA Hospital following a long illness.
Born Feb. 28, 1937 at Lamar, he was the son of the late Swansie Adams and Vida Morgan Adams. Mr. Adams was a graduate of Matoaka High School and retired from Chapman Paper Plant in Huntington. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in Germany. He was an avid golfer and bowler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Harley Adams, Buck Adams, Sam Adams, Bo Adams, Lowell Adams and an infant brother; and three sisters, Sue Bailey and two infant sisters.
Survivors include his wife of five years, Sandra White Adams of the home; four sisters, Marie Stewart of Princeton, Pat Nixon and her husband Walt of Cool Ridge, Margaret Holt and her husband Eugene of Reese Harmon Ridge, Lashmeet, and Bonnie Mack and her husband Darrell of Clarks Gap; one stepson, Jeremy White and his wife Kathryn of Milton; one step-granddaughter, Halley White; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2006 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Kenneth Abram officiating. Interment will follow at the Adams Family Cemetery at Clarks Gap where military honors will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Council.
Serving as pallbearers will be Frank Adams, Barry Adams, Kenny Adams, John Stewart, Jason Mack, Rusty Nixon, Bear Holt and Burl Lyle.

Allen “Red” H. Brown
FRANKFORT, Ky. — Services for Allen “Red” Brown, 85, of Frankfort, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home in Frankfort. The Rev. Sam Glenn will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Frankfort. Mr. Brown died Friday evening, June 2, 2006 after a long illness.
A native of Bossevain, Va., he was a former employee of the Department of Transportation where he was a diesel mechanic, and Wal-Mart where he was a greeter. He was also a member of the Church of God. He was the son of the late William H. and Dora Dawson Brown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, James Brown and Bob W. Brown; his daughter, Joi Adler; and sister, Martha Ellis.
Survivors include his wife, Loraine Brown, Frankfort; daughter, Barbara Rucker, Lawrenceburg, Ky.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Bearers will be Monte Allen Adler, Joel Jennings, Steve Martin, Seth Proctor, Ken Butler, and Paul Chilton. Honorary bearers will be Joan Proctor, Oscar Hazelett, Jules DeLambre, and Alice DeLambre.
Visitation will be held today from 2:30-6:30 p.m. at LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home in Frankfort.

Thelma Theresa Hubbard
PRINCETON — Thelma Theresa Hubbard, 66, of 706 Fayette St., Princeton, died Saturday, June 3, 2006 at her residence.
Born May 23, 1940 in Princeton, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Lillie Thompson. She was a homemaker.
Four brothers, Paul Thompson, Pete Thompson, Jack Thompson and Alvin Thompson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Willis “Bucky” Thompson of Princeton; four sons, Terry Coalson and Jerry Coalson and his wife Lisa, all of Princeton, Billy Coalson Hubbard and his wife Kim of Lashmeet, and Jeff Hubbard of Green Valley; four daughters, Debbie Lippencott and her husband Mark, Linda Garrett and her husband Freddy, and Theresa Hubbard, all of Princeton, and Sandy Brewer and her husband Benny of Spanishburg; eighteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; and one brother, Harold Thompson of Princeton.
In keeping with Mrs. Hubbard's wishes she has been cremated and there will be no services.
Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton is in charge of arrangements.
Raymond L. Johnson Jr.
PRINCETON — Raymond L. Johnson Jr., of 37 Valley Drive in Princeton, died Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Princeton Community Hospital.
Born Dec. 6, 1928 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Raymond L. Thompson Sr. and Alma Crockett Johnson Hercey. He was retired from the Worcester Rapid Transit Authority in Worcester, Mass. He attended the First United Methodist Church in Princeton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had lived in Princeton since 1998, moving from Worcester.
One son, John Johnson; one brother, James Hercey; and one sister, Mary Ramona Robinett, preceded him in death.
Survivors include three sons, Raymond L. Johnson of New Hampshire, Robert Johnson and David P. Johnson and his wife Elaine, all of Oxford, Mass.; one daughter, Anna Webster of Auburn, Mass.; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Danieley of Speedway and Shirley Gay Totten of Princeton; and special friend with whom he made his home, Nancy Tolliver of Princeton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Randy Adkins officiating. Additional services will be conducted in Worcester. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton on Thursday.

Robert Douglas Jones
PAGETON — Robert Douglas Jones, 89, of P.O. Box 73, Pageton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 2, 2006 in a Bluefield hospital.
Born Dec. 14, 1916 in Jenkinjones, he was a son of the late Estil and Nannie Lou Jones. Doug will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. He was a very kind, loving, and unselfish man who seemed to always have a smile upon his face. What a joy it was to see his beautiful blue eyes shine as he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was employed by Consolidated Coal Company for 49 years and was known throughout the community for the hard work that he did for the water and sewage line in the Pageton area. He attended Gary Pentecostal Church in Gary under the leadership of the Rev. Richard Sturgill when his health allowed.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Geneva Jones; two sons, Harold and Arlen Parks; one brother, Houston Jones; and his grandson, Keith Allen Kress.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years. Evelyn Jones and four children, Mrs. Jesse Spencer (Shirley) of Pageton, Mrs. Ernest Rose (Brenda) of Skygusty, Mrs. Peggy Kress of Princeton, and Mr. William Parks of Pageton. Grandchildren are Marlene Spencer, Saundra Parks, Reverend Kalvin Kress, Jesse Spencer III, Michael Spencer, Phillip Spencer, Carmella Parks, Kevin Rose, Ernest Rose Jr., Tammy Steele, Angela Shatley, Arlen Parks Jr., Douglas Parks, Robert Parks, Lorrie Parks, Kimberly Spencer, Keri Spencer and Billy Joe Parks. He was blessed with 28 great grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Doug was also blessed to have four stepchildren, Keith Phillips of Florida, Tommy Kimball of Princeton, Jennie Parks of Davy, and Teresa Burgess of Maryland.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 4 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with the Rev. Richard Sturgill and the Rev. Kalvin Kress officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell where Jesse Spencer III, Michael Spencer, Ernest Rose Jr., Kevin Rose, Thomas Kimball, and Coty Burnette will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Spencer and Ronald Parks.

Dustin Roby Lester
DRY FORK, Va. — Dustin Roby Lester, 6 day old son of Roby Luther and Roxanne Honaker Lester of Dry Fork, went to be with the Lord Friday, June 2, 2006 in a Johnson City hospital.
He was born at Johnson City, Tenn. on May 27, 2006.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Roger Lester.
In addition to his parents, survivors include sisters, Savanna and Summer Lester of the home; and maternal grandparents, Russell and Susie Honaker of Bandy, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 5, 2006 at 2 p. m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel of Tazewell, Va. with the Rev. Roger Barnett officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Jerry Boothe and David Houchins.

Mario Poletti
WAR — Mario Poletti, 73, of War, died June 2, 2006 at his residence.
Born March 10, 1933 in Caretta, he was the son of the late Jack and Maria Poletti. He graduated from War High School in 1951 and from Concord College in 1959. He had been a lifelong resident of War where he taught and coached football for 33 years. He was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church in War, and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict as a member of the 508th Airborne Division. In recognition of his long term dedication to the students and athletes of Big Creek High School, the football field was named in his honor in 1996. He was honored at the last game played on the field in 2005 as the field was decommissioned for construction of the new junior high school for the Big Creek District.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth Ann Cassett of War; two sons, Michael Poletti and wife Karen of Lumberton, N.C., and Christopher Poletti and wife Bessie of Hillsville, Va.; three sisters, Ida Moles and husband T.S. of Millersville, Md., Teresa Schulze of Glen Burnie, Md., and Mary Davis of Columbus, Ohio; and four grandsons, Shane, Eric, Tanner, and Christopher Poletti.
Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the Christ The King Catholic Church in War with Father Tan Nguyen, S.V.D., as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where military rites will be conducted by Mercer County Veterans Council.
Friends may call Monday at Fanning Funeral Home in War from 5 to 9 p.m. where rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Shane Poletti, Eric Poletti, Tommy Mullens, Tommy Hale, Tom Calloway, and Drexel Adkins.

Edith Lorraine Roark
PRINCETON — Edith Lorraine Roark, 76, of the GlenWood Park Retirement Village, Princeton, and formerly of 1520 Stadium Drive, Bluefield, died on Thursday, June 1, 2006 in a Bluefield hospital.
Born on June 12, 1929 in Bluefield, she was a daughter of the late Lee Roy and Pearl Hazle Jessee Roark. She had been a lifelong resident of Bluefield and was of the Baptist faith. She was a retired nurses aide and formerly worked at St. Luke's hospital in Bluefield.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Mary M. Roark; and three sisters, Brenda Parks, Barbara Roark, and Carrie Roberts.
Survivors include four sisters, Frances Crawford of Salem, Va., Sophia Roark and husband Russell of Pulaski, Va., Shirley Brunty of Bluefield, and Betty Lou Williams and husband Eddie of Abingdon, Va.; four brothers, Lee Roy Roark of Bluefield, Billy Roark and wife Diane of Bluefield, Charles Roark of Pulaski, and Robert Roark and wife Carolyn of Pulaski; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with the Rev. Nancy Cale officiating. Peggy A. Tibbs
BLUEFIELD — Peggy A. Tibbs, 74, of Route 5, Box 424, Bluefield, died on Friday, June 2, 2006 in a Bluefield hospital.
Born on Sept. 10, 1931 in Bluefield, she was a daughter of the late Jessie Clyde and Zella Reed Peake. She had been a resident of Bluefield for all of her life and was a member of the Deliverance Temple Church. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Troy W. Tibbs, preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Dreama Sproles and husband Butch of Bluewell; two brothers, Denny Peake of Rock and Jerry Peake of Bluefield; four sisters, Shirley Wheeler of Georgia, Sonjia Oberson of Bluefield, Wanda Gumm of Athens and Shelia Collins of Bluefield; several nieces and nephews.
Private cryptside services will be conducted for the family on Monday at 3 p.m. at the Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell with the Rev. David Kirby officiating.

Mrs. Ida Mae Townsend
HAVACO — Mrs. Ida Mae Townsend, 84, of Havaco, died Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Roanoke Carillion Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born May 2, 1922 in Opelika, Ala., Mrs. Townsend was the daughter of the late Dorcas and Boysie Kindred. Mrs. Townsend was educated in the Lee County, Ala. school system before marrying her sweetheart of 42 years, the late Nathan “Jake” Townsend Sr. They moved to Welch shortly thereafter, eventually making their home in Havaco. Mrs. Townsend resided in Havaco for more than 50 years where she was a faithful and chartering member of Havaco Temple Baptist Church. She briefly worked for the Carter Hotel in Welch, but for most of her years was a loving homemaker and servant in the community.
Other than her parents and her beloved husband, Nathan, she was preceded in death by her son, Nathan “Bubba” Townsend Jr., and several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Townsend leaves to mourn her passing one son, Czell Townsend of Havaco; two sisters, Wylenia Gaither and Kate (Aubrey) Walker of Gary, Ind.; two brothers, Shepherd Richmond of Cleveland, Ohio, and David Richmond of Gary; four granddaughters, Yvette Townsend (Nathaniel) Ingram, Kesha Townsend (Jermaine) Simmons, both of Charlotte, N.C., and Angela Townsend and Ashley Townsend, both of Welch; one grandson, Bryan Gustus of Gary; a very special niece, Diane Collins of Havaco; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Homegoing services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at Havaco Temple Baptist Church in Havaco with the Rev. Kenneth L. Orr, assisted by the Revs. William R. Spencer Sr. and Roger L. Walton Sr., officiating. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Bluewell.
Mrs. Townsend’s family and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flowerbearers.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2006 at the church and at 10 a.m. Tuesday before services.

Mr. James A. Warden
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Mr. James A. Warden died peacefully on Friday evening, June 2, 2006 in his home surrounded by his family.
A native of West Virginia and a graduate of Dartmouth College, Mr. Warden served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946. He worked in banking before becoming the Assistant Director of N.C. Memorial Hospital for many years. After training as a stockbroker, he worked for Smith Barney until his retirement. Mr. Warden was a fine pianist and organist as well as a choral singer. His other great interest was gardening; his yard is a place of beauty. He was married to Susan Horine Warden, who passed away in 1982.
He is survived by his daughters, Margaret Maytan of Carrboro, N.C., and Susan L. Warden of Lawrence, Kan.; his sister, Mrs. Betty Keirstead of Simsbury, Conn.; and his three grandchildren, Gregory Maytan (and his wife Sandra), Amelia Maytan and Susie Warden.
A memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, June 10 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of the Cross in Chapel Hill; the Rev. Stephen Elkins-Williams will officiate. There will be a reception following the memorial service at the church. The graveside service for family members will be performed before the memorial service.
Funeral arrangements will be made by Walker’s Funeral Home.

• Melda Victoria Whitt: 1 p.m., Little Dove Old Regular Baptist Church in Hurley, Va. Burial will follow in Lester Cemetery, Mohawk.
