• Ruby Mae Hanson, 96, of Salem, Va., formerly of Christiansburg, Va., died Friday, March 28, 2008 in a Salem adult care facility. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, Va.

• Jacob E. King, 92, of 301 Park St., Bluefield, died Friday, March 28, 2008 at his residence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton.

Dorothy Campbell Baldwin

CHATHAM HILL, Va. — Dorothy Campbell Baldwin, age 86, passed away March 27, 2008 at Heritage Hall in Blacksburg, Va.

She was born in Chatham Hill section of Smyth County, Va. to the late Harry E. and Emma S. Campbell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman B. Baldwin; her daughter and son in law, Nancy and Ronald Stevens. She was also preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by five grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Chatham Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.

John Wesley Conley

PARKERSBURG — John Wesley Conley, age 49, of Parkersburg, W.Va., formerly of Montcalm, “Sandlick”, W.Va., took his final ride into his new life, on his “Harley” following a long illness on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at St. Josephs Hospital, Parkersburg, W.Va.

Born April 12, 1958 at Welch, W.Va., he was the son of Mildred Johnson Conley of Sandlick and the late Rev. John Bert Conley. Wesley had a lifelong love for Harleys. He was employed as a mechanic and carpenter.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, Alfred and Fannie Dixon Conley and John and Gracie Adkins Johnson; one granddaughter, Haley Joy Nave; four brothers, Alfred Wayne Conley, John Bert Conley, Jr., Carol Conley, and Jerry Conley; one nephew, Alfred Wayne Conley, Jr.

Those left to mourn his loss are: His mother, Mildred Johnson Conley of Sandlick; former wife, Jacquline (Crickett) Hatter Conley of Adams Co., Ohio; one son, John Patrick Conley of Adams Co., Ohio; two daughters, Melissa Nave and husband Keith of Duhring, Amanda Conley of Adams Co., Ohio; four brothers, Rick Conley and wife Vickie of Browning Lambert Mountain, James Conley and wife Anita of Bluewell, W.Va., Sherman Conley and wife Sherry of Springville, Va., Danny Conley and wife Teressa of Montcalm, W.Va.; four sisters, Barbara Conley of Manchester, Ohio, Wanda Kinley of Montcalm, W.Va., Sheila Roberts of Sandlick, Patricia Conley of Illinois; eleven grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; special friend, Janet Jett of Parkersburg, W.Va.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, W.Va. with the Rev. Ernie Folks officiating. Burial will follow in Shillings Cemetery on Browning Lambert Mountain.

Friends may call at the funeral home today (Saturday), March 29, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Dewayne Fardolious, Greg Kinley, Flea Conley, Dallas Conley, Pat Deaton, Greg Thomas will serve as pallbearers. Brandon Conley and Billy Duncan will serve as honor pallbearers.

Geraldine (Jerry) Buckland Houchins

PEARISBURG, Va. — Geraldine (Jerry) Buckland Houchins, 81, of Pearisburg, Va., passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Jerry went home to the Lord's House to join her husband, Granville Houchins; her parents, Darrell and Edith Johnson Buckland; her sisters, Flora McKlarney, Sylvia Munsey, Betty Lou Poff; her brother, Darrell Hampton Buckland, Jr.; and a nephew, Arvel Hampton Thompson.

Jerry was born on May 14, 1926 in Giles County, Va. She was the third child out of eight, one boy and seven girls. She was a member of the Ingram Village United Methodist Church and was a retiree of the Celanese Plant in Narrows, Va.

She is survived by three sisters, Lois Thompson of Kelleysville, W.Va., Luella Lafon of Salem, Va., Clara Ruth Miller of Peterstown, Va.; a special cousin who was like a sister, Charlotte Faulkner of Peterstown; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Poff of Roanoke, Roscoe Houchins of Pearisburg; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Lucas and Pauline Riddle of Pearisburg. She is greatly loved and will be forever in the hearts of her many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 30, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Shahn Wilburn officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the home of Jerry Houchins and at Givens Funeral Home today (Saturday) from 6 - 8 p.m.

Mrs. Patricia Louise Jackson

POUNDING MILL, Va. — Mrs. Patricia Louise Jackson, age 79, of Pounding Mill, Va., passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008 at her home following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Tazewell County and was the daughter of the late Noel James and Lavie Elizabeth Steele Witt, Sr.

She had made home in the Pounding Mill area all of her life and was a member of the Claypool Hill Bible Church. She was a Richlands High School Class of 1947 graduate.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Harmon Jackson; one sister, Thelma Witt; and one brother, Noel James Witt, Jr.

Survivors are: One daughter: Rita Beth Jackson of Paintlick, Va.; one son: Mark S. Jackson and wife, Gale of Paintlick, Va.; one sister: Charlotte Witt Nuckols of Bluefield, Va.; one brother: Harold G. Witt of Bluewell, W.Va.; two grandchildren: Elizabeth Alisha Jackson and Alexander Stephen Jackson; several nieces and nephews as well as special caregivers: Total Home Care Nursing, Total Home Care Hospice, Judy Safewright, and Judy Minton also survive.

Funeral services for Patricia Louise Jackson will be conducted Sunday, March 30, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va. with the Rev. Carl Tegeler and the Rev. Steve Tegeler officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Men of the Claypool Hill Bible Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Emma C. Witten

TAZEWELL, Va. — Emma C. Witten, age 97, of Tazewell, Va., passed away, Friday, March 28, 2008 at Heritage Hall Health Care in Tazewell, Va., where she had resided for the past three years, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born January 1, 1911 in Gratton, Va., she was a daughter of the late William Graham Cox, Sr. and Elizabeth S. Bourne Cox. “Ms. Emma” made a career working at several area drug stores as a store clerk. She was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Tazewell, Va.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Martin Witten; two brothers, Sam G. Cox and C. Bowen “Bo” Cox; five sisters, Ella Cox, Julie Stowers, Minnie Cox, Nannie Cox and Marie Cox.

Survivors include one brother, William G. Cox, Jr. and wife, Macie of Tazewell, Va.; three nephews, Garland Cox of Castlewood, Va., Fred Cox and wife, Donna and Everett Cox and wife, Asterie, her loving caregivers, all of Tazewell, Va.; four nieces, Sarah Bowling and wife, Don of Bluefield, Va., Mary Whitt and husband, Danny of Tazewell, Va., Kaye Seay and husband, Donnie and Gayle Baker and husband, Matt, all of Richmond, Va.; other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 3 - 5 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, Va. where funeral services will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. with Minister Danny Whitt and the Rev. Kathie Wilson-Parker officiating.

Interment will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2008 at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, Va. Pallbearers will be Fred Cox, Sr., Fred Cox, Jr., Don Bowling, Cody Cox, Dajon Cox, and Michael Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert “Bob” Cox, Garland Cox, Donnie Pruitt, and Donald “Buzz” Ratliff.
