Deaths

• Kenneth L. (Buck) Godfrey, 71, of Man, died March 21, 2008. Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger is in charge of arrangements.

• Clarence Jack Johnson, 75, of 3943 Wittens Mill Rd., North Tazewell, Va., died Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va.

• Harold Woodrow Robertson, 95, of Pearisburg, Va. (Thessalia Community), died Saturday, March 22, 2008. Givens Funeral Home of Pearisburg is in charge of arrangements.

• Bernard L. Shrader, 85, of Matoaka, died Sunday, March 23, 2008 in a Princeton hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.

• Margaret Harless Williams, 68, of Rocky Gap, Va., died Sunday, March 23, 2008. Complete arrangements will be announced later by Highland Bland Funeral Chapel, Bland, Va.



Obituary

James Alma Smith

TAZEWELL, Va. — James Alma Smith, age 90, of Tazewell, Va., died Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Tazewell Community Hospital. Born September 17, 1917 in Tazewell County, Va., he was a son of the late Joseph E. Smith and Carrie Bogle Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Lewis Smith; one son, Joe Ronnie Smith; three brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include one brother, Walter Lee Smith and wife, Mary of Charles Town, W.Va.; two sisters, Maggie Smith Mitchell and husband, Arthur of North Tazewell, Va. and Helen Stevenson of Springville, Va.; several nephews, nieces, family and many friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Rev. Roy Lee Smith and the Rev. Troy Bartley officiating. Burial will follow at the Smith Family Cemetery in North Tazewell, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Monday (today), March 24, 2008.

• Lee Ander Grimmett: 2 p.m., Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Richlands, Va. Interment will follow in Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery, Richlands.

• Raymond Jackson “Bud” Hypes: 1 p.m., Burns Wornal Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Eads Mill Road, near Princeton.

• Iva Lee Tiller Jenkins: 11 a.m., Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell.

• Martha Ruth Karnes: 1 p.m., graveside services at Athens Cemetery, Athens.

• Jerry Arnold Lester: 11 a.m., Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell, Va. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Va.

• Stella Charlottie Honaker Mullins: 11 a.m., Crossview Church of Christ in Paynesville. Burial will follow in Esaw Rife Cemetery, Keen Mountain, Va.

• Lou C. Reynolds: 2 p.m., memorial service in Mercer Funeral Home Chapel in Bluefield. Burial Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Ross Family Cemetery in New Castle, Va.

• Margaret Irene Sanders: 10 a.m., Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Lashmeet.

• Herman Sexton: 1 p.m., Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Bluewell.

• Margaret Davis Turner: 11 a.m., Riffe’s Funeral Chapel in Narrows, Va. Burial will follow in Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, Va.

• Odessa Jones Walters: 2 p.m., Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg, Va. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg.
