Prep Girls: Tazewell claims tourney opener against Indians

WYTHEVILLE, Va. — Autumn Hash scored 12 points and Essence Brown added nine, leading Tazewell to a 49-32 win over Rural Retreat in the P. Coe Shootout on Tuesday night at George Wythe High School.

Stevie Parks led the Indians with 12 points, while Chasity Jones added 11.

Tazewell (5-5) will play Radford tonight at 6:30 p.m. The Indians will play Bland County at 2 p.m.

MONTCALM — Leslie Kelley scored 24 points and added six steals to lead Montcalm past the Cavaliers.

Miranda Kendrick added 13 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Hannah Johnson tallied 10 points.

Alexis Mabe pulled down nine rebounds.

Jamie Brown led Mercer Christian with 31 points.

Montcalm (2-4) travels to Midland Trail on Thursday. The Cavaliers travels Friday to the Hoops Classic in Charleston.

WYTHEVILLE, Va. — Paula Catron nearly outscored the Lady Bears by herself, scoring 27 points to lead the Warriors to win in the P. Coe Shootout at George Wythe High School.

Chilhowie (7-1), which built a 32-10 lead at the break, also received 10 points from Micah Untiedt.

Bland County (1-5) was paced by Alyssa Harris with nine points and eight by Amber Eaton.

The Bears will play Rural Retreat today at 2 p.m. in the P.Coe Shootout, while the Warriors face Graham at 7.

Narrows, which didn’t play on Tuesday in the tournament, will play Holston today at 3:30 p.m. The Cavaliers lost to Grayson County 54-32 in the same event.

BRADSHAW — Shelia Hopkins scored 12 points and Destiney Sims added 11, leading the Beavers past the Raiders.

Kiresten Dority led River View with seven points. Chelsea Dobbs pulled down 19 rebounds and blocked two shots.

Phyllis Waldron added 15 rebounds.

Bluefield, which will host Nicholas County today, also received eight points from Dazia Edwards.

River View will visit Mingo Central on Dec. 29.

The G-Girls will play Chilhowie today at 5 p.m. The Maroons will host Grayson County at 8.
