NARROWS, Va. — The third time was a charm, thanks to Tiffany Perdue.

Having already lost to their archrival twice and trailing by a point with seconds on the clock, Perdue fired up a 3-point attempt with 5 seconds left and connected, leading the Green Wave to a consolation game win over the Spartans.

Perdue, who led all scorers with 20 points, was able to answer a Giles 3 with her third successful 3 of the game. Perdue was selected to the all-tournament team.

“It was a close game throughout, we were back and forth there,” Narrows head coach Wayne Gautier said. “They hit a 3 with about 12 seconds left and we got the ball down the floor.

“I was trying to call a timeout and Tiffany come down and got a shot off from about 25 feet and the ball went in for the win and we held on from there.”

Peyton Carter added 10 points for Narrows (2-7), which had lost by 5 and 17 points earlier against the Spartans. The Green Wave outscored Giles 26-20 in the second half, and were 20-35 from the free throw line, while the Spartans were 7-14.

Shana Davis had seven points, five assists and four steals for Narrows.

“It was big ball game, it was a rivalry game,” Gautier said. “It is hard to play somebody three times and it was close throughout. It was a fun game to coach, it was exciting today.

“We just need to win, get back on track a little bit and hopefully that will give us some momentum when we get into the regular season.”

Giles (2-6) had three players in double figures, including all-tournament team member Karli Beechler (15). Tiffany Flinchum tallied 12 and Courtney Estep had 11. Flinchum had two of the Spartans’ four 3s.
