Prep roundup: Grizzlies scare Lady Mavs

LINDSIDE — Shealyn Shafer scored 23 points to lead three Grizzlies in double figures, as Nicholas County defeated James Monroe 62-49 on Thursday night.

Lauren Young added 14 points and McKenzie Martin tallied 11 for Nicholas County, which improved to 10-1.

Kelsie Mann paced James Monroe with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Carter Shiflett scored 11 points, Jordan Page contributed nine points and seven assists, and Lane Shiflett pulled down 12 boards.

James Monroe (3-7) will visit Bluefield on Monday.

PEARISBURG, Va. — Karli Beechler scored 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds, leading the Spartans to a Three Rivers District win over the Mustangs.

Amber Bradley added 10 points and eight boards for Giles (3-10, 1-2), which will visit Auburn on Wednesday.

Eastern Montgomery was paced by Afton Graham with 15 points.

LINDSIDE — Two James Monroe defenders combined for 18 blocked shots, but Fort Chiswell took the win in a game played on Wednesday night.

Coleman Thomas scored 24 points for the Pioneers.

James Monroe was led by Chord Settle with nine points. Josh Ganoe contributed six points, 10 rebounds and 11 blocked shots, while Garrett Mann was held scoreless, but added seven rejections.

Bluefield swept by Blue Raiders

COLUMBIA, Ky. — Bluefield College’s Lady Rams had their two-game win streak snapped in an 86-76 setback at Lindsey Wilson on Thursday night.

Bluefield dropped to 12-5 and 4-3 in the Mid-South Conference.

The Bluefield College men lost 83-50.

No other information was available.

Bluefield travels Saturday to Campbellsville.
