Prep roundup: Akers' 27 not enough for Tigerettes

HUNTINGTON — McKenzie Akers scored 27 points and dished out seven assists , but the Princeton girls basketball team lost for the first time season, dropping a 69-65 decision at Huntington.

Khadija Payne added 17 points for the Tigerettes, while Marissa Mullins had 12 and Hannah Preservati contributed nine points and nine boards.

Payne added eight boards and Mullins had three steals and three assists. Stephanie Lambert led Princeton with five steals.

Huntington (7-2) was paced by Kiana Evans with 22 points, while Dominique Gibson added 18 and Dazha Congleton tossed in 13.

Akers is closing in on the school’s girls scoring record held by Tina Six.

Princeton will visit Oak Hill on Tuesday.

GLEN DANIEL — Miranda Kendrick scored 12 points and added five rebounds and four assists to lead the Generals past the Raiders.

Montcalm (3-5) also received eight points, eight steals, five boards and four assists from Leslie Kelley. Hannan Johnson scored seven points and Alexis Mabe added six points and six rebounds.

Stacy McGinnis scored 15 for Liberty.

Montcalm travels to Valley Fayette on Monday.

UNION — Jamie Brown recorded a unique double-double, scoring 26 points and swiping 10 steals for the Cavaliers.

Brown also had six rebounds and two assists for Mercer Christian, which improved to 4-4 on the season.

Seneca Trail was paced by Laura Boyer with 12 points and 11 by Sarah Burnette.

London Taylor added 10 points, four boards and two steals for the Cavaliers. Sammy Goins added five rebounds, while Brooke Bradshaw had four.

Mercer Christian will visit Mountain View Christian on Monday.
