The Concord University women’s soccer team stretched its unbeaten streak to three games by topping previously undefeated Davis & Elkins 2-1 on Sunday at Anderson Field.
The Mountain Lions defeated the Senators behind goals from Erika Hoff and Fiona Mearns. Concord improved to 4-6-2, 2-4-1 in the West Virginia Conference.
Concord was outshot 10-6 and at 7-1 disadvantage to Davis & Elkins in corner attempts.
Davis & Elkins (8-1-2, 3-1-2 WVIAC) took the first four shots of the match, but it was Hoff who broke through with a free kick at the 35:15 mark in the first half.
The Mountain Lions added an insurance goal in the 78th minute on a strike by Fiona Mearns, her second goal of the season.
Emma Davis of Davis & Elkins sc ored with less than two minutes left to break up the shutout.
Goalie Kaitlyn Wasylko made three saves.
Men’s soccer: D&E 7, Concord 2
The Mountain Lions (2-9-1, 1-6-0 WVIAC) were able to get 17 shots off, 10 on goal, but could not overtake the Senators, who had three goals from Oliver Bienias. Concord’s Isaac Jordan converted two of his three shots in a span of about six minutes.
CU had shot contributions from Ryan Forde with four, Caleb Bone with three, Richard Vincent and Jacob Wise with two apiece, and Brandon Barrett, Kris Robins, and Tyler Farrar grabbing one each.
Goals from Davis and Elkins included Bienias (3), James Pucci (2), Branko Dugalic (1), and Darragh Vieyra (1).
Goalkeeper Mitchell Thompson recorded 45 minutes this match with five goals allowed and two saves. Matt Hamilton came in the second half allowing two goals with four saves.
