Greeneville topples Rays

PRINCETON — The hitting woes continued for the Princeton Rays as Frederick Tiburcio and Jordan Mills combined to toss a two-hitter and lead the Greeneville Astros to a 4-1 win Thursday night at Hunnicutt Field.

The Astros scored early and late for the win. Two runs in the first off Rays starter Jacob Faria were the first earned runs the pitcher allowed this season. The Astros capped it off with two more in the ninth off Luis Cabrera. Darren Fischer pitched three scoreless innings for the Rays.

Princeton’s lone hits were singles by Hunter Lockwood and Armando Araiza.

Rays’ pitchers scattered five hits with no Astro having multiple safeties.

Tiburcio got the win as he pitched six innings of two-hit ball and struck out five. Jordan Mills earned the save as he worked the final three frames.

Faria suffered the loss as he pitched five innings, gave up two runs on four hits and struck out two.

The two teams conclude their three-game series tonight at Hunnicutt Field. First pitch is set for 7:05.
