BURLINGTON, N.C. —
That three-game win streak is now just a memory.
Princeton dropped a doubleheader to Burlington on Friday night, falling 5-1 and 5-4 in front of 964 spectators at Burlington Athletic Stadium.
Princeton (4-9), which had swept a three-game series from Johnson City, finally returned to the field after an off day on Tuesday and a pair of rain dates, but hitting woes continued to haunt the Rays.
The Rays managed just three hits and a run in the opener, and eight in the nightcap.
Princeton did rally for two runs in the seveth to tie the score at 4-4 in the finale, but the Royals scored one on the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run by Bobby Fisher-Brown to sweep the twinbill.
Mauricio Ramos had two doubles and scored two runs for Burlington in the final game. Pedro Gonzalez also had two hits.
Three Burlington pitchers worked on the mound, with Jose Miquel Rodriguez picking up the save, despite blowing the save originally in the sixth.
Burlington committed four errors in the win.
Four pitchers worked for Princeton, with Darren Fischer taking the loss in relief.
Chad Nacapoy led the Rays with two hits. Hunter Lockwood, Coty Blanchard and Adderly Ross drove in a run each in defeat. All eight of Princeton’s hits were singles.
Burlington jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead in the first game, eventually sending Nolan Gannon to the loss. He dropped to 0-2 on the season. Gannon worked five innings, allowing just three hits and two earned runs. Stone Speer surrendered two runs in an inning for the Rays.
Ramos had two hits, including a double and two runs batted in. Gonzalez added a pinch-hit two-run home run the Royals. Ramon Torres also doubled in the win.
David Garcia had two of Princeton’s three hits, including a solo home run in the sixth. Jesus Araiza added a double for the Rays.
Matt Tenuta earned the win, allowing three hits and a run in 5 2/3 innings. Andrew Edwards pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to pick up his second save.
Princeton will visit Burlington again tonight, and will return to Hunnicutt Field for a three-game series beginning Sunday against Pulaski.
