Prep golf: Graham, Galax tie

Coalfield Conference holds tournament

BLUEFIELD, Va. — The two top golf teams in the Mountain Empire District, Graham and Galax, ended up with matching 164 scores Monday, tied at the top in a match played at Fincastle on the Mountain.

Travis Simms of Graham was co-medalist, along with a pair from Galax, Nick Sage and Dominic DiGiacomo. All shot 39s. Ben Ramsey was one shot back with a 40.

The district golfers will meet again next Monday at New River Country Club in North Carolina, with Grayson County hosting.

Graham 164, Galax 164, Fort Chiswell 181, Grayson County 184.

Individual Scores

Graham — Travis Simms 39, Ben Ramsey 40, Zach Toohey 42, William McGuire 43.

Coalfield Conference holds tournament

PIPESTEM — James Monroe, PikeView and Bluefield came in second, third and fourth respectively in the East Division of the Coalfield Conference golf tournament held Monday at Pipestem Resort State Park.

Nicholas County won the East Division with a 339 team score. Wyoming East won the West Division with a 337. River View posted a 418 team score.

The all-Coalfield Conference tournament team was led by Drew Ward of Nicholas County who shot a 76.

Others making the list included Ike Judy of James Monroe (78), Jason Truman of Nicholas (81), Ben Boggess of PikeView (82), Taylor DeHaven of River View (82), Carter Shrewsbury of PikeView (85) and Joel Carlos of Bluefield (85).
