Virginia High shuts down Bulldogs, Auburn snaps losing skid at Narrows

BRISTOL, Va. — Justin Brown ran for 165 yards and four touchdowns, leading the Virginia High Bearcats to a 49-7 win over Virginia High at Gene Malcolm Stadium on Friday night.

Virginia High scored 20 points in the second quarter to take a 27-0 halftime lead, and added 21 more points after the break.

Tazewell scored in the fourth on a 22-yard touchdown pass from T.J. Kitts to Juwan Jordan. Jacob McReynolds added the extra point kick.

Virginia High out-gained the Bulldogs 291-169.

McReynolds ran for 67 yards on 13 carries for Tazewell, while Jesse Mountain led the Bulldogs with four receptions for 29 yards.

Kitts was 5 of 10 for 51 yards, while Malik Davis completed two passes for 16 yards and an interception.

Tazewell will visit Mitchell Stadium on Friday.

NARROWS, Va. — The streak is over.

Jeremy Nelson ran for 148 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, leading Auburn to win over the Green Wave, snapping a 39-game losing streak for the Eagles that dates to 2009.

Seth Cox ran for 87 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown for the Eagles, who scored 13 third quarter points and 20 in the second half.

Rodney Perdue paced Narrows with 94 yards on 16 carries. Joe Hall was 3 of 14 for 55 yards and an interception for the Green Wave.

Narrows will host Eastern Montgomery next week.

HINTON — T.J. Smith threw for a touchdown and ran for the game-winning score in the fourth quarter to lead the Bobcats to a hard-fought  win over the Panthers.

Chris McBride connected with Tanner Farley on a 64 yard completion in the fourth quarter to account for the final margin. Hunter Moses scored on a 37-yard run in the first period to tie the score at 6-6.

Smith threw for 46 yards, while Isaiah Brown ran for 145 yards. McBride threw for 157 yards for PikeView.

Jaquan Ayers put Summers County up 6-0 in the first on a 30 yard run. The Bobcats answered the Moses touchdown with a 6-yard pass from Smith to Caleb Hannah.

Smith’s 2-yard run in the fourth quarter put the Bobcats up 18-6.

Summers County will host James Monroe next week, while PikeView will entertain Independence.

PEARISBURG, Va. — Brian Mann drove for a two-point conversion in overtime to lead the Spartans to a thrilling win over the Bruins.

Brett Whitlow scored 34 points in the game, collecting five touchdowns and four extra points. He ran for 209 yards on 16 carries, including the game-tying score in overtime.

Giles finished with 419 yards on the ground, with Tyler Perdue added 101 yards on 15 carries, and Mann had 99 on 19 totes of the ball.

Caleb Bohrnstree threw for 88 yards for Blacksburg, while Issac Johnston threw for 85.

Giles will visit Christiansburg next Friday.

Craig County 20, Bland County 18

BASTIAN, Va. — Cody Dunbar scored on a 7-yard run with 8:36 left in the game to lead the Rockets past the Bears. Mason Smith’s two-point conversion run provided the final margin.

Bland County trailed 12-0 after the first quarter, but tied the score on a 4-yard run by Tyler Faulkner and a 78-yard interception return for a touchdown, also by Faulkner.

The Rockets took the early lead on a 75-yard pass to Smith from Levi Helm and Alex Carper returned a fumble 72 yards for another score.

Craig County finished with 143 yards of offense, including 99 through the air by Helm. Bland County had 185 yards.

Dunbar led Craig County with 49 points on the ground, while Bland was paced by Keith Miller with 59 yards.

The teams combined for 12 turnovers.

Bland County will host Rural Retreat on Friday.
