PikeView soccer opens on the road

CLARKSBURG — The PikeView High School boys soccer team launched its season with a 2-2 tie in a match with Robert C. Byrd High on Friday evening.

Hunter Klein scored both goals for PikeView (0-0-1) to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. Isaac Von Blaricom and Brandon Calfee assisted on the goals. Robert C. Byrd (0-0-1) got goals from Kevin Steele and Drew LeMasters, the latter with about 14 minutes left, for the tie.

PikeView goalkeeper Ted White had five saves.

Girls

PikeView’s Madison May scored 15 seconds into Friday’s season-opening match, off an assist by Kari Shrewsbury. The Eagles answered with goals by Samantha Duffey and Mariah Vu, the tie-breaker coming with 14 seconds remaining before halftime.

Kristen Brinkley had four saves in goal for PikeView (0-1-0). For Robert C. Byrd (1-0-0), Jasmine Matheny had two saves.

The PikeView girls will play at Fairmont Senior today at noon. The boys game will follow at about 2 p.m.
